Wake yo Punk Ass Up!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the words of emcee Eiht "Wake yo punk ass up!!!!!" Can't believe that I been at it now a little over 2 months, Wow.. Time flies when you're having fun. When I started this, I set out to do it so the underdogs could have a voice and a outlet to be seen and heard. That's why I try to stray away from doing write ups on artists who have record deals because they get enough publicity and promotions as is. I want you guys to come here and read about that Joe Regular dude, who giving you that same quality work as the major artist. I mean don't get me wrong I like my friends and associates who are in the biz, doing their thing and wish them continued success. Not to say I won't do an article on them but at this moment I am focused on the people who do this for the love and passion. So if you have solid music or poetry get at me and in return I will give you an outlet to get your words and message to the world. All I ask is first and foremost that it is quality material, just because you do music don't mean I am going to put you up on here. As I said before this is dedicated for the folks who have talent. I am not here to smash anyone's dreams and aspirations but I am just being honest. Secondly I ask that you please pay it forward, if you know someone who you feel is just as dope as a "Common" or talented as "Jill Scott" by all means have them contact me and shoot me a brief bio and MP3. I will blast them here and let my friends and followers know about their talent as well. As I said, this isn't about me. I do this for my love of fresh music and over all dope talented people out there who are just as good if not better than those pawns that the industry is trying to force feed us to accept. Okay, now as you know August is almost here. And I look forward to bringing you a few goodies, maybe a couple of Q & A's with some up and coming producers and artist. I am also looking into getting with a few DJ's I know and doing live interviews and posting the videos for y'all. So keep dropping in and stay connected. Also, spread the word, tell your friends, friends tell your friends, tell ya uncles and aunties, and teachers, bus drivers or who ever else you know who likes quality music and dope articles to come in and look around. Let's get this cracking and I will do my best to keep it fresh for y'all...

You can submit music and bio's at the following email address: brasco.joe@gmail.com

I.N.C.H. Paris France Stand Up!!!

How y'all doing out there? (Shouting thru a bullhorn while standing in a crowded ghetto intersection) What's good people? Today I thought I would take a moment to introduce y'all to some European hip hop. No not European as in Eminem but as in the other side of the Atlantic European. Well a while back I had the opportunity to be featured on a CD that was released by a French producer who goes by the name I.N.C.H. out of Paris France. And I have to admit it was a cool experience to get that global head nod from this cat, I mean honestly to have someone reach out and offer you a slot on a project is proof that you are doing something right. Well anyways I.N.C.H. is a all around cool dude to work with. When he approached me he was already knowing how he wanted his project to flow and he shot me like 7 beats to select from. We discussed everything over SKYPE and that cut down on a lot of back and forth emails. Plus mad props to my father for teaching me a little french growing up "Come' Se Va"
So, after selecting a track that I felt would represent my style,as well as showcase his production I went to work. Now keep in mind you see the pressure cooker is on due to the fact I am not only reppin' me but the whole United States. I was like a one man Dream Team because if I dropped something WACK, not only would I look bad but my region would look bad too. I ended up dropping a single on the project titled "Far Away" and much to my surprise it was received very well over there, so I wanna say BIG UPS to I.N.C.H. for making that connect.
Now the title of the CD is "Only One Process" and it is a collaboration of works with I.N.C.H. and various emcees from across Europe. There is a crew from England called Multifinish who dropped a straight banger with there song titled "Props" also, out of New Jeru there was Dicap & Nemisis who laced the project with the I.N.C.H. produced track "They Say". Overall it is safe to say that this is a solid project, and I expect to hear more from I.N.C.H. in the future. So if you are a fan of that real hip hop you will take a liking to this CD the moment you press play. Well my time is almost up but before I step out I am going to leave y'all with a few parting gifts for your personal enjoyment.. first is a mini video intro from the project "Only One Process" all tracks and scratches by my man I.N.C.H. and secondly the single 'Far Away" featuring yours truly.

M.O.T.H.E.R. there is no OTHER

O.K. I was on the phone the phone last night with my mom and I realized how funny she is, we talked about life as usual but this time it wasn't as serious. See I am used to my mom telling me what where and how things should be. So when we just talk about nonchalant trivial stuff it is funny because I am always waiting for her to go and you should be......... Anyway I felt that this post was appropriate for my Queen my Momma. Here's to you.

What's really in JBM BEATZ Goodie Bag??

What it do y'all? Well today I have a special guest on deck, not only do I consider this guy an extraordinary talented beat smith, but also have the pleasure of being a close friend as well. So if you sense a bit of bias my apologies in advance. I have known JBM BEATZ for well over 6 years and I have watched him grow musically, so to have the opportunity to sit down and see whats on his mind is going to be a cool experience. First and foremost, I want to thank you for collaborating with me on my LP. Vintage that was an amazing track you shot me, good looking out. So let me start this session off with our and my first question.

9to5R) Can you remember when you actually realized that you wanted to do music?
JBM: About 6 or 7 years ago.

9to5R) So what is it that inspires you to push the limits production wise?
JBM: Life Experiences and the artist. I try to get to know the artist and build with me from there on concepts and etc.

9to5R) Who are you feeling musically? And Why?
JBM: To many to choose from.
9to5R haha, politically safe answer I see, I can dig that..

9to5R) What is your favorite type of artist to work with when making a track?
JBM: Those that are creative and truly have a passion for music.

9to5R) O.K with the big trades recently in the N.B.A. who would be your Dream Team Studio sessions, who are the top 5 you would pick? And why?
JBM: Honestly, all the artist that worked with on the Goodie Bag Experience project and more. I feel that they are all talented enough to make it on the same levels as the Greats that everyone seems to consider dope. Haha!! It’s just a matter of time before any one of their sounds break on big level. Whether it’s underground or mainstream.

9to5R) So do you think the days of a beat maker/producers ability to make money selling beats are over? If so why?
JBM: No, it’s all about networking.

9to5R) Where would you like to see Hip Hop go in the future?
JBM: I just want to see Hip Hop to continue on. I would also like to see it embraced truly by the working class citizen. It seems like everyone enjoys Hip Hop but not in the office.

9to5R) Are there any projects on the horizon that you’re working on that we need to be checking in for?
JBM: I’m always working on something. You can follow me via twitter@ http://twitter.com/jbmbeatz for the latest updates.

You want to let people know where to find your music?

Turntablism and Hip Hop M.I.A.

I was talking to a good friend of mine the other day about beat making and where it is heading. He told me he thought it was going to crash and burn like disco. I was like "WHOA!!" that's a very big statement to make, but then I had to sit back and let him explain his reasoning behind that remark. See he told me that the internet and the MP3 killed the producer. He said that the fact that people nowadays can basically download records via Blogspots, Amazon,Limewire,iTunes, and Piratebay that they have become less hands on with their approach to making tracks. I am not going to lie to y'all because I am one who uploads records and send them to my friends all over the world as well as have them send me records via links such as Yousendit,DivShare, and Media Fire. Therefore with that said I guess I am going to fall into the category of producers he is describing. Mind you I am a fan of the O.G. Digging for Wax and I still get out and get my hands dirty, but I must admit the whole MP3 digging for media thing is getting to the point it is the norm these days. I will put my paycheck on it that there are a lot of these Fruity Loop, Acid, Logic based producers who don't even own a turntable.
Well anyway, my friend was saying that the reason beat making was going to go down in flames over the side of a cliff like a convertible Ford Fairlane in a 1970's action flick is, the lack of true DJ's and cats that actually know how to utilize turntablism in their craft. See you listen to music now and it has no scratching in the break, there isn't that gritty vinyl crackle and hiss that authenticated the rawness of the beat. Everyone wants that crisp sample that is laid out in the open for them to just pick up and place over a break beat drum loop. He went on to explain how the MP3 made it where a person can find the groove or break, sample it, and discard the rest of the record and then place it on the internet for the entire planet to grab. He said that it takes away the whole idea of finding that gem hidden in a record that you just went out and bought on the strength that it looked funky so you gonna cop it and see what you can find to sample.
I listened to his point and weighed the options of MP3 digging on the internet and just doing the HUNT as me and my friends call it, and I do agree with him as far as it is more hands on more personable and more exciting. You go out find that EARL HINES lp and be like WHOA this is the album Pete Rock used to lift the classic C.L. Smooth laced "Straighten it Out" also, I thought about the countless times where I would make a track, and find myself saying man this needs a scratch right here and it would complete the vibe of where I am taking you musically. So I have to face the music and agree with da big homie.
Don't get me wrong I am still going to grab samples off the internet but I always have been a hands on guy so if you see me in ya local Goodwill, or Salvation Army don't bother me I'm Hunting.
Shout Outs the homeboy DJ MADMIXA for the in depth conversation and eye opening facts that I hadn't realized I too was making the mistake of becoming a non hands on producer.

DJ MADMIXA can be reached at http://www.myspace.com/madmixaproductions go there check out his music and chop it up with the brotha he is really knowledgeable and a good source of information when it comes to turntablism. 25 years in the game and he still keep it relevant, now that's what's up..

Panama Black Y'all............

Greetings, today I bring to the table some southern fried hip hop to tease ya taste buds. No I am not talking about fried chicken wings and hot water cornbread, and no I am not talking about sweet potato pie either... However, what I am talking about, is some good ole down home cooked hip hop from my man Panama Black coming live and direct from Houston Texas. You see me and Panama go back and I have been a fan of his work for years. Therefore, I feel that I need to share with you the music that I have been BIGGIN' UP to all of my homies out here on the left coast. Panama Blacks style and delivery takes you back to the days when hip hop was free flowing and fun.. Reminiscent of the Pharcyde, MURS or Y'all So Stupid, dude has a unique delivery and flow that you will definitely appreciate if you are a true fan of classic hip hop music.
Well with out further delay live and direct it's Panama Black!!!! With his song titled "Religion" and as always ENJOY....

What up people? Now that we have all gotten over our 4th of July festivities and our massive hangovers, it's now time to get back to the real world... Speaking of which, I woke up this morning and as usual was running late as fuck to the job-site. Seems no matter how many times I try to make that 45 minute drive in 15 minutes.. That shit never quite seems to work itself out. Anyways, on the the meat and potatoes of my story. You see I was in my car this morning, driving down the freeway, on twitter, blasting mp3's on the stereo, and drinking my mandatory morning coca cola. When I came across a song from a female emcee named Signif the Gift, who comes by way of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Signif is a very skillful rapper with a velvet smooth delivery that blends into the beat and captures you into the music. As a listener you will find yourself being able to hear every word in her songs, which is rare these days. Especially when so many of these so called rhyme spitters fail to actually master the art of delivery. I found that to be quite refreshing, due to the fact as a fellow emcee, I pride my self on delivery everytime I step into the vocal booth as well. Anyhow, there was one song that caught my attention called Magnetic which was produced by one of my good friends J.B.M. from Signifs' album titled The Transition. Personally, I happen to think the song is pretty damn dope. Plus, I felt that it needed to be posted for your listening pleasure. So as always, ENJOY!!!!!!!!!

4th of July weekend..

Whats good folks? Well today is the day of independence and the day that many of you forgot that you don't eat pork... as BBQ sauce and grape soda is a plenty.. let us not forget the corn on the cob also. Well as I prepare to step out into the world of California Hwy Patrol check-points and Bey-Bey kids in the middle of traffic lighting illegal fireworks. I can't help but to think how much fun I had this weekend. My fun began July 2nd in Los Angeles California, where I linked up with Milwaukee's Best, No not the beer, but the one and only HazSolo. Thursday evening I got a phone call from Haz who said he was out here in Cali chilling with Jimi-James, and since me and him been trying to link up for sometime the timing was perfect. We discussed old business and talked about upcoming projects and what not, then decided I should come thru and put together some music while he was here.
Needless to say, I packed up the trusty Laptop,Pro-tools Mbox,25key midi controller, and hard drive full of samples and oldies. Upon arriving I was greeted by Haz who is hella cool, we listened to each others trax and then after deciding on a few trax we got to work. We knocked down a few songs, which I will be posting in the near future for ya listening pleasure.
After recording, Jimi-James fell thru (who for those that don't know, is cool as fuck!!) and invited me to the Troubadour in LA where she was performing with DAM-FUNK.
So after twisting my arm (joke) I was like yeah I'm with it. Anyway, went to the show met DAM-Funk, J-1, Computer-J, and a host of other musicians from the LA hip hop scene. I also chopped it up with MC Eiht who performed that night. After talking to these cats and enjoying the show I found myself chilling with Peanut Butter Wolf, who like me has ties to the bay area. We talked about hella random shit like the famous Heiroglyphics vs. Hobo-junction battle that aired on KMEL back in the day straight classic. We discussed music, hip-hop, and bay shit. Side bar, "Swiss Beats don't know who produced Cold Chilin' Records The Symphony, featuring Kool G-Rap,Masta Ace,Craig G,and Big Daddy Kane?? Wow" PB Wolf is cool people and I look forward to talking to him again in the near future(he know what I'm talking about). However, the highlight of the night came when one of the originators of female funk rock pop fusion walked out on the stage. The one and only Jody Whatley, who took center stage backed by Dam-Funk. The crowd went bananaz, when she walked out there. After her performance HAZ and Jimi-James introduced me to a few producers, bloogers, and various other cool people in general. The night ended with me Jimi James and Haz mashing back to her spot where we discussed music the night and future projects, I left LA feeling totally re-energized and must say that I had a good weekend. Much love to Haz-Solo,Jimi-James,Dam-Funk,PB Wolf, and Jody Whatley. Thanks for keeping it 100.
